Flexibility and high resolution

Description

The IPM650 Intelligent Panel Mount is FUTEK’s solution that can be easily integrated to work with Load Cells, Torque Sensors and Pressure Sensors. The IPM650 Digital Load Cell Display has an input range of up to +/-500 mV/V. Besides the mV/V input, the device accepts amplified output sensors in range of ± 12 VDC or up to 30 mA. It also has two individual relays and two analog voltage and analog current outputs. This load cell display unit provides an additional 24 VDC / 5 VDC as power supply for sensors with a built-in amplifier. FUTEK’s IPM650 Load Cell Display also supports TEDS which makes it easy to switch between different sensors. A high speed/ low noise/ high resolution (24 bits) ADC is integrated in the device to make it suitable for high-accuracy measurements. This IPM650 Load Cell Panel Meter also has the capability of displaying values onto a computer through a USB link.

Load cell digital displays are necessary where the load or force measurement application requires that the load be displayed locally in the field or laboratory as well as displaying the results on a PC, DAQ or PLC. In those cases, one can use FUTEK IPM650 Digital Load Cell Display. Each load cell readout can be used to connect up to 14 sensors' profiles.

The IPM650 is not just a Digital Load Cell Panel Meter (strain gauge display or weight meter) it goes beyond, indicating the force measurement readings, exciting the load cell bridge circuit and reading its mV/V output signal. The more advanced the digital load cell display is, the more capabilities it has to condition the signal and communicate with peripheral devices, such as a computer, PLC, DAQ, or remote display unit.

What are the basic functions of a load cell signal conditioner?

  • Excitation Voltage: Full-bridge load cells or torque sensors require an excitation voltage to feed the strain gage Wheatstone bridge and generate their output signal as a ratio of the input excitation voltage.
  • Filtering: Analog sensor signals are susceptible to electrical noise and/or residual ripple voltage, which can distort or skew measurements. Noise needs to be filtered out before you can capture an accurate signal.
  • Amplification: A full-bridge strain gage sensor can output a signal in the nanovolt through millivolt range. When your DAQ or PLC is limited to measuring volts, you will need a strain gage amplifier to convert millivolts to a larger signal.
  • Signal conversion: The majority full-bridge load cells and force measurement sensors or transducers generate an analog output in the millivolt range (mV/V). Thus, signal processing is traditionally analog. So, if you req PLC or DAQ system requires an amplified analog (i.e.: 4-20 mA, 0-10 VDC) or a digital output (USB, SPI), the load cell or torque sensor needs a strain gauge signal conditioner to convert the mV/V signal to the required signal output.

The IPM650 Panel Mount Display, designed for precision measurement applications, is a versatile multi-function display with high resolution. As a panel mount display, also known as a load cell readout, it provides a seamless integration with USB (2.0) connectivity to your computer. Its user-friendly navigation menu, combined with integrated high-speed, high-resolution, low-noise ADC, enhances its adaptability. The IPM650 supports a wide range of sensor inputs, accommodating up to ±500 mV/V Strain Gauge, ±12 VDC, or 0-30 mA load cells, torque, and pressure sensors. The panel mount design ensures secure integration into your control systems, offering a clean and professional appearance while maintaining easy access and visibility.

Broad Range of Sensor Inputs

The IPM650 Panel Mount Display can accept a large array of inputs. It is compatible with full bridge strain gauge inputs up to ± 500 mV/V ensuring seamless integration with a variety of strain gauge-based or mV/V sensors as well as amplified voltage output sensors up to ± 12 VDC, or current output sensors up to 30 mA. The IPM650 can significantly improve project accuracy and reduce errors by streamlining data interpretation with its universal unit conversion options for load, torque, pressure, and displacement sensors.

The IPM650 functions as a voltage or current transmitter that reads the output signal from strain gauges, ceramic, and diffused silicon piezoresistive sensors. This allows for the conversion and transmission of various physical quantities, including force, pressure, weight, displacement, torque, and liquid level. The conditioned signal can be seamlessly input directly into computers, PLCs, DAQ systems, and other measurement or control instruments.

Enhancing Engineering Precision

The IPM650 is designed to tackle critical engineering challenges head-on. Its exceptional sampling rates of up to 4,800 samples per second (SPS) for mV, VDC, or mA inputs, minimize inaccuracies in measurements (i.e., signal aliasing). The IPM650 has a remarkable resolution, offering up to 18.7 bits of Noise-Free Resolution (NFR) for mV/V and 21.4 bits of NFR resolution for mA/VDC inputs.

As an example, a 2 mV/V output sensor with a 100 lbs [445 N] capacity can resolve the signal down to 0.00082 lbs [0.0036 N], ensuring even the smallest changes in the measurements are registered allowing you to achieve higher levels of detail and accuracy in highly dynamic applications such as robot motion control. Moreover, its low non-linearity of ±0.005% of Full-Scale Range (FSR) reduces measurement errors.

Robust data logging and streaming

The IPM650 can store up to 21,000 measurement points. This ensures robust data logging, particularly in applications involving extensive datasets.

Live graphing is also an option. Real-time data monitoring is ideal for remote or hazardous applications, where on-site access may be constrained or unsafe. IPM650 is also equipped with ASCII stream output, enabling developers to design standardized data interfaces.

SENSIT® software compatibility

The USB output enables IPM650 to be remotely controlled through SENSIT® software. You can upload the data logging information from the IHH500 into the SENSIT Software where it can be graphed and evaluated or exported to an Excel table for further analysis.

The seamless integration with FUTEK's SENSIT® software equips you with advanced data visualization tools, facilitating in-depth analysis and informed decision-making.
